role summary and impact
executive director of strategy for the latam region, is a paramount executive leadership position responsible for defining, overseeing, and championing the overarching strategic vision and capabilities for all wpp media clients across latin america. This individual will be a key member of the regional leadership team, driving strategic innovation, fostering c-suite client relationships, and ensuring wpp media remains at the forefront of media and marketing strategy in a dynamic and diverse market.
the executive director of strategy will be instrumental in converting new clients, collaboration closely with other global/regional/local team members, leading the strategic response /value proposition for prospect clients in new business processes.
as executive director of strategy, your core responsibilities will include:
1. Executive strategic leadership & vision:
define and champion the overarching strategic vision, methodologies, and best practices for wpp media across the entire latam region.
drive long-term strategic planning for the agency's client portfolio, identifying growth opportunities, market shifts, and new business frontiers.
translate regional business objectives, market dynamics, and wpp global mandates into an actionable and cohesive strategic agenda for the latam strategy function.
lead the development of innovative strategic frameworks and solutions that elevate wpp media's offerings and differentiate us in the marketplace.
2. Regional business impact & client c-suite partnership:
serve as a primary strategic advisor to wpp media's most senior clients (c-suite level), fostering deep, trust-based relationships and influencing their marketing and business strategies.
lead and oversee the strategic development and delivery for high-stakes regional new business pitches, ensuring a compelling, differentiated, and winning strategic narrative.
lead strategic dialogues, workshops, and high-stakes pitches for key regional accounts and new business opportunities, showcasing wpp media's strategic leadership.
identify and drive opportunities for significant account growth, p&l expansion, and innovative strategic partnerships across the region.
ensure the strategic output directly contributes to client business outcomes, market share gains, and long-term brand health.
3. Future-forward insights & innovation leadership:
oversee the regional insights agenda, ensuring a deep understanding of latam consumer behavior, cultural nuances, technological advancements, and competitive landscapes at a macro level.
drive a culture of continuous innovation across the entire strategy function, anticipating future trends and spearheading the adoption of cutting-edge media platforms, data solutions, and strategic approaches.
position wpp media as a thought leader in media and marketing strategy through proprietary research, industry partnerships, and forward-thinking initiatives.
4. Strategic function leadership & talent development:
lead, mentor, and inspire the entire regional strategy team, including the regional strategy & planning director and their respective teams, fostering a collaborative, high-performance, and growth-oriented culture.
5. Cross-agency & wpp group integration:
collaborate closely with the regional ceo, executive leadership team, and other functional heads (e.g., client management, data & tech, finance) to ensure strategy is fully integrated into all facets of the regional business.
drive strategic alignment and collaboration with wpp network and specialist units across latam and globally, leveraging the full power of the wpp network to deliver holistic client solutions.
represent the latam strategy function within global wpp strategy forums and initiatives.
6. External thought leadership & wpp media reputation:
act as a leading spokesperson for wpp media's strategic capabilities, actively participating in high-profile industry events, conferences, and media engagements across latam.
publish thought leadership pieces, white papers, and contribute to industry narratives that elevate wpp media's profile and strategic reputation as a market leader.
skills and experience
visionary & strategic thinking: ability to define and articulate a compelling strategic vision, dissect complex regional business challenges, identify macro insights, and develop transformative, data-backed strategic solutions at an executive level.
superior executive communication & influence: exceptional ability to articulate complex ideas, inspire confidence, and persuade c-suite clients and regional
leadership, both orally and in writing. Fluent in spanish and english (written and verbal) is essential, portuguese is a significant plus.

12+ years of progressive experience in media strategy, brand strategy, or communications planning within a leading advertising or media agency.
proven responsibility for overseeing a significant strategic function, managing teams, and driving business growth.
demonstrated experience defining and implementing successful strategic initiatives that have led to measurable business outcomes and competitive advantage.
extensive expertise in the media landscape, consumer behavior, and deep cultural understanding of latam markets.
proven track record of leading winning strategic approaches for major new business pitches.
