Job description
as a design assurance dfmea engineer, you will enable stronger product robustness and help prevent issue recurrence by coaching cross‑functional program teams on dfmea development, feature/system concern closure, and evidence‑based control strategies. You will help teams translate lessons learned and chronic concerns into actionable dfmea content, verify that requirements and test plans appropriately control risk, and accelerate closure of feature safety/concern (s/c) and pac‑related work.
This role is based at the gtbc building with an expectation of being on‑site at least 4 days per week.
Responsibilities
drive dfmea development (using magicdraw)
partner with program teams to establish and execute an fma plan covering:
new technology introductions
chronic concerns / lessons learned
concerns/parts in the top quartile of 3mis (as applicable)
support application/core dfmea development across assigned programs
review dfmeas and provide clear guidance on updates needed to improve risk identification, cause‑to‑control alignment, and completeness
apply ai‑enabled methods to strengthen quality work products
use approved ai tools to support:
dfmea drafting, review, and consistency checks
sccaf/sccp reviews (as applicable to the business process)
improve speed and quality of dfmea and control‑plan‑related reviews while maintaining engineering judgment and process compliance
ensure requirements and verification align to risk
review requirements and test content identified in dfmeas to confirm they:
appropriately control the causes identified
close gaps in detection/prevention
reflect realistic and measurable verification strategies
ensure additional dfmea tools are updated
review boundary diagrams, cpa’s, rcl’s:
appropriately identify and communicate any gaps
rcl’s close gaps in detection/prevention/noise factors to obtain required useful lives
reflect realistic and measurable verification strategies
prevent recurrence and drive closure discipline
progress north america feature s/c pac papers to closed/pending within defined targets and to closed status within established timeframes
drive closure of assigned feature na pac papers within target timing
qualifications
experience leading cross‑functional teams.
Working knowledge of dfmea best practices, including cause‑effect relationships, severity/occurrence/detection thinking, and linkage to controls and verification.
Ability to review and challenge requirements and test plans to ensure they control the risk described in the dfmea.
Familiarity with issue‑prevention / recurrence‑prevention methods (e.g., corrective action systems, lessons learned, concern tracking and closure discipline).
Comfort using (or willingness to learn) ai‑assisted tools for engineering documentation review and quality workflows (dfmea and sccaf/sccp reviews).
Strong collaboration, facilitation, and coaching skills—able to influence without relying solely on formal authority.
Ability to manage multiple deliverables across programs and meet milestone‑driven timing.
