We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Specialist Engineering
Role Purpose:
The Specialist Engineering job supports the provision of engineering expertise in specialist technology engineering areas which may include but is not limited to data engineering, security engineering, front-end engineering, user experience engineering. Includes Infrastructure domain specialists such as Storage, Network, Middleware, etc.
The job will provide support for platforms specific to a business area that requires specialist technology engineering expertise; and /or a product or service within a technology engineering specialism;
Design and engineer software with the customer or user experience as a key objective for internal and external users focussing on the interface and front-end usability of the application
The role may contribute to delivering modern development technologies to support the Secure Development Layer chapters, develop data technology solutions across the data lifecycle, and safely deploy and scale analytic products to build insights and data assets aligned with business outcomes and strategic data models.
The job requires proficiency in an agile way with a high empathy for continuous delivery and DevSecOps - must be able to do small, low-risk, high cadence change. Typically will release to production daily or multiple times per day.
The role will carry out some or all of the following activities:
- Participate in technical design of features with guidance.
- Take ownership and accountability for production incidents, in terms of timely communication, escalation and incident hygiene.
- Identify potential system improvements and explain their benefits.
- Support the establishment of a digital environment and automate processes to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data
- Continuously contribute to code, ensuring compliance with all relevant controls and standards including relevant Service Management Standard.
- Keep up-to-date and have an understanding of the specific impact of the functional delivery, the business context of change and how a delivery may impact other functional areas.
- Lead production incident reviews for the team.
Qualifications Required:
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, IT Infrastructure or similar discipline
- Minimum experience 2 years
- IT experience working in a fast paced, IT development shop
- Top notch troubleshooting ability
- Demonstrate a current knowledge of latest DevOps tooling and practices
- Experience in deploying to both a private and public cloud
- Experience in automation software tools like Jenkins and Ansible
- Experience of continuous integration tooling, ideally using Jenkins
- Working knowledge of Linux systems, predominantly RHEL, UNIX / Shell scripting
- Strong communication skills and documentation skills, both technical and non-technical
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated personality with excellent time management skills and a strong sense of initiative
- Fluent English to support people in other countries.
