Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain Chef and Puppet systems for automating infrastructure tasks such as server provisioning, package installation, and software deployment.
- Develop and execute automation scripts and workflows using Chef and Puppet to streamline infrastructure management processes.
- Write Chef recipes and Puppet manifests to define and enforce desired system configurations.
- Translate infrastructure requirements into code using Chef and Puppet, promoting consistency and repeatability.
- Design and implement deployment strategies for applications and infrastructure, ensuring efficient and reliable deployments.
- Enforce security and compliance policies using Chef and Puppet, ensuring that systems meet organizational standards.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to Chef and Puppet systems and infrastructure.
- Document Chef and Puppet configurations, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Collaborate with engineers, developers, and DevOps teams to integrate Chef and Puppet into their workflows.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest features and best practices for Chef and Puppet.
Required Skills and Experience
- Chef and Puppet proficiency: strong understanding of syntax, architecture, and best practices.
- Experience with configuration management tools beyond Chef and Puppet (e.g., Ansible, SaltStack) is a plus.
- Proficiency in Ruby or other programming languages used in Chef and Puppet.
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and their respective services.
- Experience with Linux/Unix administration and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of networking concepts and technologies.
- Familiarity with DevOps principles and practices, such as CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with other teams and documenting solutions.
