astellas' global capability centres – overview
astellas' global capability centres (gccs) are strategically located sites that give astellas the ability to access talent across various functions in the value chain and to co-locate core capabilities that are currently dispersed. Our three gccs are located in india, poland and mexico.

purpose and scope:
the asset controller is responsible for ensuring that the asset ledgers are correctly established and operate in line with group policy and local statutory regulation as required. In addition, operating leases will form a significant part of the role ensuring that all leases are correctly captured in the ifrs16 calculation model and represented as necessary in local statutory accounts. Specifically for the americas an element of the role will be responsible for overseeing intangible assets and deal tracking. The role will be the subject matter expert for lease and asset accounting and contribute to the continual improvement of lease and asset accounting operations.
the position is a focal point for audit and accounting controls around fixed assets, leases and work in progress.
responsibilities and accountabilities:
overall responsibility of the fixed assets sap register and associated accounting records and including the ifrs16 leasing model in accordance with astellas policy and in consideration of local statutory requirement for each affiliate
ownership of the operation of fixed assets additions, disposals and depreciation
support the capitalization, set-up, amortization, and impairment processes for intangible assets (including license and milestone arrangements), ensuring accurate representation within the fixed asset/ifrs16 ledgers and associated reconciliations, with operation of relevant j-sox controls and collaboration with stakeholders to obtain complete and accurate deal inputs and documentation.
reporting of fixed assets and overview of the reconciliation between the register and the ledger.
operation and monitoring of the ifrs16 leasing model including co-ordination between affiliates and central booking of leasing depreciation and local statutory adjustments where required.
onboarding of new lease vendors into the ifrs16 model.
management of the work in progress assets on behalf of research and development teams.
collaboration with procurement, legal and business operational colleagues to assist in the creation of fixed asset entries to support complex accounting in the creation and maintenance of intangible assets.
key contact point for jsox controls and audit requests related to fixed asset and lease accounting.
continuous development of efficiency and compliance improvement, contributing to and supporting transformation projects as required.
required qualifications:
bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
aca / or acca / or cpa and / or equivalent accounting qualification.
fluent in written and spoken business english and spanish.
experience:
minimum 5 years of relevant experience in accounting and finance with focus on fixed assets and lease accounting.
strong knowledge of asset and lease accounting specifically to include ifrs16
knowledge of work in progress accounting in a research and development environment
prior experience in a multinational environment and matrix organization preferred
familiarity with shared service or global capability centre collaboration models
technical knowledge:
solid understanding of internal controls, j-sox/sox frameworks, and financial governance
advanced knowledge in general ledger postings, fixed asset and lease accounting
advanced knowledge of r&d capitalisation methodologies
systems and tools:
proficiency in erp systems (such as sap)
ifrs16 lease accounting models
r&d capitalisation models
strong excel skills are essential
language and communication
good communication and stakeholder management skills
english and local language advanced level in speaking and writing
